Future Cast: Lethbridge Hurricanes

2019 WHL Draft Summary

Despite not selecting in the first two rounds of the draft, the Lethbridge Hurricanes were able to make due with their selections and draft quality prospects with the hand given to them.  Selecting forwards who are big and possess loads of speed down the wing and defensemen who are steady defensively but have skill to input on the offensive game. In particular the selection of Reid MacKay was one we liked a lot, MacKay is a big body winger who shoots the puck well and has separating footwork, a promising young prospect who could play in the WHL soon. Defensemen Logan McCutcheon was the teams first pick at the draft, he’s a skilled puck moving defensemen with high hockey IQ and a distributing game from a last man back position. The Hurricanes also took shots on a few American born players, Camden Shasby would be an outstanding get if he commits to the WHL. Evan Raines and Chase LaPinta were also american born selections. Erik Roest, Kaden Dyck, and Jakin Lawrence are all other selections who have good upside and possess gifted size at a young age. Overall it was a promising group taken by the Hurricanes.
