Report: Did not play at the Alberta Cup due to nursing of an injury, Melnyk may be the third ranked player on our list from the AMBHL winning Fort Saskatchewan Ranges but he led the team in scoring with 74 points this past season. Melnyk is a goal scorer, his focus is to put pucks into the back of the net and will do whatever it takes to do that. He has slightly above average speed and skating, nothing really separating about his stride but his offensive intuitiveness with his positioning and relentlessness around the net makes him such a highly efficient player. Melnyk sets up shot either in the slot or near the left side dot, two spots on the ice where he feels comfortable getting shots off from. At the beginning of the season his trademark was driving down the right side wing and firing an accurate shot in stride or distribute to a forward driving the net, but as the season sort of progressed he learn how to adjust his approach and create changes from different angles and playing with cerebral abilities offensively. Tenacious in all three zones, applying loads of pressure onto the puck carrier while holding inside position in his defensive end. Melnyk can play a bit selfish at times, firing numerous shots and not looking to make a pass. Feisty around the net and battling to put the puck in the back of the net. Can get caught at times looking down at the puck. Overall Melnyk is a balanced forward with versatile scoring abilities and scoring instincts with the puck, competes hard and has the ability to score in bunches.
