Height/Weight: 5’9, 174bs

Position: Defencemen

Hand: Left

November 8th, 2020 vs Sherwood Park: Spencer Claerhout brings plenty of poise and calmness to the ice. He’s a reliable presence on the blueline who rarely makes a mistake. His passes are crisp and simple with little room for error. Claerhout has a lot of structure defensively. He plays the boards well consistently and knows when to lay a hit or go after the puck. Offensively, he doesn’t dazzle you by any means but he does the job. He commands the blueline excellently. Probably the best I’ve seen in Alberta. Puck rarely leaves the zone when he’s out there and he’s always getting shots on goal. His skating is right up there with the best of them too. – Liam Horrobin

There isn’t a defenceman in this draft class as good as Claerhout at getting pucks on net from the blueline. His release from the point is quick, accurate, and he produces shots at a high volume throughout the game — creating tons of secondary scoring chances for the forwards causing traffic in front of the net. Claerhout also possesses many other attributes you look for in premier defencemen: strong poise, not afraid to step up physically, makes smart defensive reads, and makes crisp outlet passes to transition the play. Claerhout’s use of his stick in the defensive zone allows him to constantly win puck battles and take away passing lanes. This is a prime example of a workhorse defenceman who is relied upon by the U15 AAA Red Deer Rebels in all situations as a key factor to his team’s success.
