WHL Draft: John Reid Standouts

The John Reid Memorial Tournament has a rich history of featuring future NHL’ers and is one of the most notable showcases of premier talent in Western Canada. Some of the most highly touted prospects in Bantam hockey we head-to-head at Servus Credit Union in St.Albert, Alberta last weekend. 

 

Teams at this year’s tournament included the Calgary Bisons, Calgary Flames, Delta Green, Greater Vancouver Canadians, Leduc Oil Kings, Lloydminster Bobcats, Los Angeles Jr. Kings, OHA Edmonton, Okanagan Rockets, Prairie Storm, Red Deer Rebels, SSAC Lions, St.Albert Sabres, St.George’s Saints, West Van Warriors, and Yale Lions.

 

The Yale Lions defeated the St.Georges Saints in the finals to take home the 2020 JRMT Championship

There was a ton of talent on display for scouts to watch in preparation for this year’s WHL Bantam Draft. Here are how some of the most notable players and some players who stood out to me with their play throughout the tournament:

Game Report: Nov 16th – Lloydminster vs MLAC

The Lloydminster Bobcats made the trip back to Edmonton this weekend with their schedule of games starting against MLAC at Millwoods Recreation Centre.

Ryker Singer scored twice to take his tally to 14 on the season. Then defenceman Ashton Cumby beat Aven Maxcy to make it a 3-0 Lloydminster final.

With the win, the Bobcats moved to 7-2-3 on the year while the MLAC fell to 1-12-1 in the Nitro North Division.

Game Report: Nov 12th – Sherwood Park vs SSAC

The SSAC Lions and Sherwood Park Flyers collided on Tuesday night at the Terwilliger Community Recreation Centre. Both teams were heading into the contest rested with no games over the weekend and off the back of wins which came last week.

The Flyers trailed 2-1 early in the third period but managed to claw their way back with a shorthanded goal from Luke Stone and a game-winner from Brayden Westerlund.

With the win, Sherwood Park moves to 5-6-2 in the Nitro North Division while the Lions fall to 6-3-2 in the same division.

The AJHL Round One Recap: North Division

The road to the Inter Pipeline Cup began last Thursday in the North Division with the Bonnyville Pontiacs hosting the Whitecourt Wolverines, the Drayton Valley Thunder taking on the Spruce Grove Saints, and the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and Grande Prairie Storm battling it out way up north.
